About Mima Foundation

The MIMA Foundation is a private, nonprofit, non-denominational organization. MIMA is derived from the Spanish word MIMAR, which means “to care for”. Since being founded in 1996 by a group of South Florida Physicians and nurses it has served to send medical specialists each year to Central and South American countries ‘to care for’ their indigent population. Since 2005 MIMA has expanded it’s reach to Uganda, Africa where it is building new schools, providing fresh water and electricity and granting self-sustaining micro loans for the extreme poor. All the members of MIMA are volunteers. There are no paid employees. All labor, supplies and funds are raised by the team members or through private donations. The organization coordinates with area hospitals, pharmaceutical representatives and local businesses to collect needed items. All donations are tax deductible as MIMA Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization recognized by the IRS.
